Help with which camera to buy (40d or K20d)?
Posted by admin | Under Pentax K20D Monday Oct 26, 2009So, I’m looking to buy either a Canon 40D or the Pentax K20D. Problem is I can’t decide which one I should buy. I’ve only been able to try out the 40D cause I can’t find a store that carries the K20D where I live. When I ask this question on Canon and Pentax forums, everyone says that their brand Camera is the better buy (naturally). So I tried to get an unbiased opinion on a Nikon forum, and they tell me to buy a D200 (I should’ve seen that one coming).
Can anyone help me out here? I like the feel and features of the Canon, but the pictures I’ve seen from the K20D simply look better than what I’ve seen from the 40D. Please give me some advice here.
The K20d is a fine camera, however, it all comes at a price. I would suggest that you get a Canon or Nikon digital SLR. These Manufacturers have much more accessories for you to choose from. I mean, you have lenses, for all price ranges, you have battery grips, and a Cable releases, better flashes, etc. Pentax has proven itself over the years, but it still doesn’t have the variety of lenses you can get with Nikon and Canon. The Nikon d200 and the 40d are Great cameras. The only reason why i would tend to lean a little to the 40d is because it has a larger screen, and can be used in live view- also has a few more little quirks. Each is a good camera though. I’ve used both Canon and Nikon DSLR’s, and i have to say, i’ve been impressed with both.
Well they were right … the D200 is a fine camera and has the most options when it comes to available lenses, new or used.
That said, of the two, the Canon has the largest lens selection.
As far as pictures from either camera … actually ANY camera can produce excellent images and excellent images have NOTHING to do with the camera.
Cameras are only tools. Just spending the money for a $8,000 Canon 1Ds Mark III will not produce better images than using a six year old Nikon D100 in the hands of an experienced pro …
Read these two links and then rethink your options.
