I would stay away from Pentax. The optics on the canon are solid and they have a great lens selection.

Try this – go to this site and type in what you are looking for. They will search around and find you the best deal. Be as specific as possible with what you are looking for!

The Pentax k20d has some feature the Nikon D40 does not have. In addition, it has 14MP of resolution. Pentax makes cameras that are every bit the quality of Nikon. If the price is about the same, I would hit the Pentax, no hesitation. You can check out the review of both at dpreview.com.
