There is no M42 … There is no M42 Autofocus lens, so NOBODY can use AF with them. On Pentax you can use central AF sensor with them. Yes, when focused, it blinks red in viewfinder. + you can use focus trap – just hold shutter pressed and focus manually.. as soon as AF sensor detects right focus, camera does picture.
You can put adapter on lens and then lock them both in body bayonet.. but there is lock, so when removing, lens must be removed from adapter first (or some people do remove lock-slot from adapter)
