can I use my zoom lens from a 35mm slr camera on a digital camera of the same make?

Wednesday Jul 28, 2010

I have a pentax slr I bought 4 years ago for £199. I also bought a zoom lens for £190. I’m now thinking of going digital but want to know if the lenses are interchangeable

Yes you can. Any Pentax KA or KAF mount lens will fit on either a samsung or pentax digital body. If the lens has a manual aperture ring you may need to set this to the ‘A’ postion to get full aperture/TTL communication between the lens and body.
You shall however experience a conversion factor of approx 1.5x, so that a lens which has a 35mm focal length of say 100mm-300mm will now have a focal length of approx 150mm-450mm. Great for telephoto shots, not so good for keeping the wide angles.

Fortunately the pentax kits often include an 18mm-55 lens which works out at a good everyday range of 28mm-90mm, so your big tele zoom would be a good compliment to this kit.

If in doubt take your lens into a camera shop and ask to try it out. Many retailers now do internet price matching, so keep the little guy going, don’t just buy purely on price, buy on service too.

there are three pentax kits, the 6MP k100d & k110d (the difference being one has anti-shake, handy for your big zoom lens, there is only a small price premium for this very useful function) and the 10MP k10d.

This camera is quite a bit more money than the first two (but no more than comparible cameras from canon or nikon) but has the best colour depth of any digital SLR at any price on the market.

Buy buying into this system you have the clever option of still using film and digital. Please note however that although the pentax 18-55mm lens will mechanically fit on your film body, there will be very pronounced vignetting (darkening of the corners)

Digital SLR lenses vs. Regular SLR Lenses?

Sunday Jul 18, 2010

I am thinking of upgrading from a 35 mm SLR to a digital SLR. I have really good lenses.(Regular which came with the Pentax , Macro and Zoom I bought , they are Sigma lenses.) I have a pentax camera and Sigma lenses. Which are working fine together.
Would the lenses I have been using fit on any digital SLR camera or do the digital cameras require different lenses. someone kind of told me that every digital camera has a differnt mount for lenses. I am asking here because I need to hear it from another source. Thanks

To my knowledge, every Pentax K-mount lens fits every Pentax K-mount camera ever made. The Pentax mount is the most backward compatible in history, even more so than the often highly acclaimed Nikon F mount.

If your lenses are older Pentax screw mount lenses, though, you’ll need to purchase an inexpensive K-mount to M42 adapter. Since the K-mount was designed with this adapter in mind, there is no loss of performance or infinity focus as with many other lens mount adapters. You do, however, lose full aperture metering.

It goes without saying, though, that no manual focus lens will autofocus even on an autofocus camera, although you probably knew this. I do understand, though, that Pentax made a teleconverter than at least permits some degree of autofocusing even with manual focus lenses.

I am sort of new to cameras. I have a Rebel 2000 SLR (AF Mounts) and a Pentax K100D digital. Is there an adapt

Thursday Jul 8, 2010

Is there an adapter that will let me use the Canon AF lenses on the Pentax digital? It is ok if they have to be manual focus afterward, as I usually use it anyway. If not, is there a 2x converter for the Pentax? It says DA on the lens. thanks.

No.

It is always important to research this before spending any money.

For SLR’s and DSLR’s
Canon = Canon
Nikon = Nikon
Pentax = Pentax
Fujifilm = NIkon
Kodak = Nikon or Canon depending upon the model number
Olympus = Olympus

Kenko makes a MC7 2X AF TELE-CONVERTER F/PENTAX for just over $100

The Pentax 2x Teleconverter is about $550 and here is a link to more information.

Olympus E-510 Twin Lens Kit + 14-42mm 135-5.6 Lens + 40-150m

Wednesday Jun 30, 2010

Designed to give photographers better image quality, the E-510 from Olympus takes over the role of the E-500 and provides you with superior quality performances, notably thanks to its large sensor and double image stabilisation system. Elected “Best Consumer Camera” by the EISA (European Imaging and Sound Association) for 2007-2008, the E-510 delivers images that are rich in colour and detail, thanks to its 10-megapixel Live MOS sensor. Meanwhile, its TruePic III image processor impressively processes sound and makes sure that images are extremely realistic with their colours, definition and contrast. With its large 2.5″ HyperCrystal screen and Live View function, you can frame your photos directly on its screen without needing to use the viewfinder, and following the example of its predecessor, the E-510 comes with a supersonic wave filter (SSWF) to solve the problem of dust, a weakness for which traditional interchangeable lens reflex cameras are known for. From the point of view of user friendliness, the E-510 retains the same compact format and is very easy to handle, offering numerous predefined scene modes that are adapted to most situations. At the same time, its manual controls give you the possibility of adding your own personal style. The E-510 is also compatible with different memory card formats, making it even more enjoyable to use, and is supplied with 2 lenses; the 14-42 mm 1:3.5-5.6 lens offers a 3x optical zoom and is designed to meet your needs in most photo situations, while the 40-150mm 1:4.0-5.6 lens is more specifically designed for sports or portrait photographers and comes with a 3.8x optical zoom. Suitable for use by both beginners and professionals, the E-510 successfully combines all the know-how of Olympus and yet again confirms the manufacturer’s commitment to the search for a 100% perfect camera.
