How to use manual lenses on Pentax K20D?

Monday Aug 31, 2009

I just got my Pentax K20D body today thinking that all my manual 35mm lenses would work with it. They mount onto the camera just fine, but when I turn the camera on, I get a blinking "F–". I can’t "lock" in the lens at the smallest aperture, and I tried going to "input focal length" in the menu, but I can’t access it, and I can’t take pictures at all. How do you make it work?

I’m using a Tamron 28-200mm f/3.8-22 zoom lens and a 50mm prime f/1.4-16 lens, if that helps. They’re both manual focus.

Go to http://www.shutterbug.com and type pentax k100d in the Search box. Look for the Review of that camera by Joe Farace in the Oct. 2006 issue. On page 2 you’ll learn how to use your older manual focus Pentax mount lenses. It should be the same or similar for your K20D.

Of course, it may be covered in the Owner’s Manual so looking there won’t hurt.

Any Pentax K20D Owners?

Monday Aug 24, 2009

I have a Nikon DSLR and am looking to upgrade in or out of the Nikon line. I’ve been looking at the K20D for a while now from Pentax. Can anyone offer any personal information on this body, such as layout and image quality?
Thanks in advance!

I’ve owned a K20D for about a year now, after trading in my Nikon. The weather sealing and in camera shake reduction are by far the best features.

My Nikon was definitely better at low light and high ISO, so expect to pick up a good flash. I use the AF360FGZ, a great flash.

Auto focus probably the worst part about the K20D. It’s really slow to lock except in extremely well lit conditions.
